The Fishing
August is the ideal time to fully enjoy all that this region has to offer. It is the season when you may begin to see the northern lights, but most importantly, when the fishing is at its peak. These waters are world-renowned for trophy lake trout, which can even be caught on the surface with popper flies. At this time of year, you can also catch beautiful specimens of pike and Arctic grayling.
With Frontier Lodge, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable fishing experience in breathtaking surroundings. Depending on your preferences, you can fish from shore or by boat. Lake trout and Arctic grayling are well suited to shore fishing, while pike are usually easier to catch by boat. The ultimate experience is catching all these species on the surface under the right confitions. However, we recommend having a variety of flies and lines for different depths to maximize your chances.

Wildlife Observation: The arm of Great Slave Lake is a sanctuary for wildlife. As you travel through the region, keep your eyes open for musk ox, moose, black bears, bald eagles and loons. Each outing offers a chance to witness these remarkable animals thriving in their natural habitat.
Northern Lights: As night falls, the magic continues. This part of the world offers some of the most spectacular views of the Aurora Borealis, a natural light show that paints the sky in shifting waves of green, pink, and purple.
